Bulldogs Pull Off Stunning Win Against Moundbuilders

By Quincy Williams

The McPherson Bulldogs squared off against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders in a KCAC matchup and won in five sets, 25-23, 25-16, 18-25, 18-25, 15-5. This win moves the Bulldog’s record on the year to 9-7, 2-1 in KCAC.

Tonight, almost felt like a Groundhog Day-esque replay of last Wednesday’s loss to Tabor College. The Bulldogs raced to a 2-0 lead in the match. The first set was hotly contested with shifting leads seemingly every serve. The second set was sheer Bulldog dominance. Strong serving, stout striking, sparkling serving had the Bulldogs in cruise control through two. In the third, the momentum shifted almost completely. The Moundbuilders jumped out to an early lead in the third set and never looked back. The Bulldogs were victims of unforced errors and off the mark hitting. The story was much the same in the fourth set; as the Bulldogs couldn’t establish a rhythm. As the fifth set began those in attendance remarked on the similarities to last week’s game. The Bulldog faithful had no reason to fret, however, as the Bulldogs closed the match out in dominant form winning 15-5.

The Bulldogs were led by a dominant hitting performance from Alicia Hall (Sr. Aurora, CO) she went 19 for 37 for a percentage of .351. Kaitlyn Heinis (Sr. Oviedo, FL) led the team with 29 assists.

Coach Cahill summed up the night saying, “It was great to get back to form. We got the monkey off our back at home and finished a strong match against a quality opponent.”

The Bulldogs next play at a triangular, hosted by Friends University in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday. They will play the Falcons at noon and then wrap up the day against Randall University at 4 p.m., a team they defeated the first weekend of the season during the KCAC Fall Fling.
