At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, American singer-songwriter and guitarist Slaid Cleaves will perform at the McPherson Opera House. Cleaves, born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Maine, is based in Austin, Texas. He studied at Tufts University, majoring in English and philosophy, but music remained at the forefront. McPherson County Humane Society sees increase in cat surrenders

The McPherson Bullpups women’s varsity volleyball team takes on the Mulvane Wildcats in a neutral non-conference match tonight at Wellington High School at 6. This weekend, McPherson Emergency Medical Services is hosting an event so fun it’s scary. From 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, at Hopp’s Sound & Electric, 214 E. Euclid, folks are invited to take part in Spooktacular Safety with McPherson EMS. So put on your costumes and join in on the fun. Activities include a cake walk, pumpkin painting, games, treats, prizes and a trick or treat safety scavenger hunt. All while learning about Halloween safety. Burglary, bomb scare unfounded

McPherson emergency personnel responded to two seemingly intense situations yesterday, that turned out to be unfounded. At approximately 11:47 a.m. McPherson Emergency Medical Services, McPherson Police officers and deputies from the McPherson Sheriff’s Office responded to East Haight Street in reference to a possible burglary or home invasion. This call turned out to be unfounded, according to Mac PD officials. In addition, at approximately 9:03 p.m., McPherson EMA and EMS, the McPherson Fire Department and McPherson Police Department officers responded to South Fisher Street in response to a call about a possible bomb/suspicious package being found. Jason Cummins to the position of patrol captain, effective Oct. 21. In addition, they approved a conditional job offer to retired Cpt. Kevin McKean for the position of McPherson Police Department operations captain, pending successful pre-employment requirements. This will also be effective Oct. 21.
