For the second year, the McPherson Free Methodist Church, 1010 S. Maple St., will be hosting a Trunk or Treat event from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31. The event will take place in the 1000 block of South Maple Street as well as the church parking lot.
“We did this beginning last year because Halloween fell on Wednesday night and we have a Wednesday evening activity that takes place,” McPherson Free Methodist Church Office Manager Karolyn Moore said. “We thought rather than just cancel anything going on Wednesday evening, we would just do a Trunk or Treat.”
Those wanting to hand out candy can begin set up in the area at 5 p.m. with the official start of the event being 6 p.m.
“There are just two rules,” Moore said. “You cannot break any city laws the second one is you are representing the church.”
Last year’s event included music, fire pits, hot apple cider and of course, treats. Some people handed out goodies from vehicles decorated to s specific theme. Others had small games to play.
“Some of our folks dress up, others do not,” Moore said. “Really it’s however extreme you want to be.”
The first year, a dozen cars saw approximately 200 trick or treaters.
“We had a good turn out. Some folks ran out of candy, others did not,” Moore recalled. “If the weather is nice we expect at least that many. This being our second year we hope that word of mouth gets out.”
So join the fun as a trunk or a treater on Oct. 31. All are welcome to join.
“It’s open to anybody it will be safe place for the kids to come.” Moore said. “This is a safe place you can come and know that the people putting this on, love Jesus and we just want everybody to be safe and have a good time.”
