McPherson High Weekend Sports Roundup

The McPherson Bullpups had a busy weekend in all sports.

Boys Soccer

The boy’s soccer team played Hutchinson High Thursday night and convincingly won 3-1. Seniors Drew Schrader and Britton Haigh provided the goals for the Bullpups, Schrader with two. Senior Samy Jaime was impressive with two assists. They will travel to Augusta and take on the Orioles Tuesday night at 6:30.

The Bullpups kept their sterling record intact (7-0) with a 31-7 win over the Rose Hill Rockets on Friday night. The Bullpups had some hiccups, as stalwart Senior QB Kaleb Hoppes threw two uncharacteristic interceptions; but they overcame these and declaratively won. Hoppes made up for the two giveaways with two touchdowns on the ground, and Senior Jakob Feil had another spectacular game with 103 yards and a touchdown. Junior Aaron Powell had his second straight game with a kickoff return touchdown. Powell and Feil represent a definite threat in the special teams’ department. The Bullpups have an away conference game with the Circle Firebirds on Friday, October 25 at 7 p.m.

Girls Tennis State Tournament

The Bullpups had a great weekend at the 5A State Tournament. Their pairing of Senior Taylor Bruce and Junior CeAnna Allen, who had a 31-0 record in the regular season, dominated and won the State Doubles title. Senior Perrin Schneider placed seventh in singles for the tournament. The Bullpups Tennis team tied for fifth overall in the 5A State Tournament.
