The Bullpups certainly could’ve used a win heading into the playoffs, they could only manage a draw Thursday night at Great Bend as the game ended in a 2-2 stalemate. The vocal crowd at Great Bend will be a dry run for crowds the team is likely to encounter during the postseason. Coach Chris Adrian said after the game, “The game was full of fouls and injuries and was allowed to get out of control at times. That being said, it was great to see the boys overcome adversity and play in a really hostile environment.”.
Senior Tyler Hoxie had a great game scoring two penalties that helped the Bullpups avoid a loss. Coach Adrian had this to say about his performance, “Tyler Hoxie was man of the match and played great in the midfield…his leadership in a tough environment is what really impressed me.”. Coach Adrian also offered up praise for Senior Trenton Stecklein who interrupted several Panther’s possessions with timely tackles.
The Bullpups are locked in as the fourth seed entering postseason competition, but their opponent is pending until after Friday night’s games. One of the Bullpups’ key players, Jael Jamie, was injured during the game. Sounding positive Coach Adrian said, “Hopefully the players that got banged up today are able to recover in time for next week. There are no 1st round gimmes in 5A so hopefully, we can be close to 100% by Tuesday night.”. The Bullpups finish the regular season with a 13-2-1 record. They will play next Tuesday in the first round of postseason action.
