Gene H. Reinecker Gene Hayden Reinecker, 92, of McPherson, Kansas passed away at 3:40 a.m., Tuesday, October 29th 2019 while in the company of family members, at Pine Village, Moundridge. Gene was born in rural Quinter, Kansas on January 29, 1927, a son of Howard L. and Verna Parthena (Dungan) Reinecker. Gene attended Quinter Elementary School, Quinter, Kansas, Washington Grade School, McPherson Junior High School, McPherson High School and McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas. He also attended Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas. He was a member of Church of the Brethren McPherson. He served in the U.S. Navy. Through the years

Special Screening of Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum

At 10 a.m., Nov. 2, the McPherson Public Library will offer the public a chance to preview a new PBS Kids show Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum. The show is based on the children’s book series Ordinary People Changed the World by New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer and illustrator Christopher Eliopoulos and premieres on KPTS, Channel 8 at 8 a.m., Nov. 11.

McPherson businesses are gearing up for the holiday season this weekend. McPherson Main Street and the McPherson Chamber of Commerce are kicking things off with the Holiday Open House Weekend! Promotion, starting Friday and going through the weekend. Businesses will be showing off their goodies and wares. In addition, the promotion kick starts the Candy Cane Cash program.

Alternative Christmas Gift Market Nov. 9

The annual Alternative Christmas Gift Market will be held 9 a.m. to noon, Nov. 9 at the Cedars Conference Center 1021 Cedars Drive in McPherson. This is the market’s 15th year running and is sponsored by the McPherson Church of the Brethren. The alternative portion is that those in attendance won’t be doing so for material gain. The booths at the event are from local non-profit organizations. Representatives from each organization will educate attendees about their non-profit and encourage donations as an alternative Christmas gift.
