The McPherson boys soccer team got off to a great start Tuesday night in a confidence-building 6-1 win over Salina Central. Senior Drew Schrader scored five goals on the night in a Lionel Messi-like performance. Schrader’s five goals ties a school record for most goals in a single game. The Bullpups got 12 shots on goal the Mustangs could only muster three. Coach Adrian said of Schrader’s performance, “He wanted it more. He had that look in his eyes in warmup today that it was going to be a good day for him. Our goal all season long was to have him as close to 100 percent as possible when it matters, and you saw it today what he can do in that situation.” Senior Samy Jamie added the other goal for the Bullpups.
The Bullpups will play again Thursday night at six at McPherson Stadium. They’ll face the Emporia Spartans in what will be a tougher matchup. If they Bullpups win Thursday they will be the regional champs.
