Explosion levels home in Galva, fundraising in progress

At 4:51 p.m. Wednesday, Canton Emergency Medical Services, Canton Fire Department, Canton Police Department, Galva Fire Department, Galva Police Department, McPherson EMS, McPherson EMA and McPherson Police Department personnel responded to 24th Avenue in Galva. The home of Kim and Richard Carlson was destroyed in an explosion.

“We have been able to salvage some of their belongings (including their passports – so they can still go on their vacation to Jamaica in two weeks), but most of their necessities including clothing, shoes and coats are all gone,” said Shannon Wescott in a post on Facebook for fundraising. She is the daughter of the Carlsons.

The family lost their home, belongings, three dogs, three kittens and a pet pig. A site has been setup to donate to the Carlsons at https://www.facebook.com/donate/968051010216641/1310031602508078/.

“The amount of people that have reached out and asked what they can do to help has been overwhelming. My mom’s phone has been ringing off the hook all night. Right now, they are very much in shock and grieving,” Wescott said. “We are collecting donations for short-term necessities to help get them through while they figure out their next steps.”
