Goddard – The Bullpups boys soccer ran into a buzzsaw Tuesday night against an undefeated Goddard Eisenhower team, they lost 7-0 in the Class 5A Quarterfinals. This McPherson squad finishes the season with a 15-3-1 record. Eisenhower is still undefeated at 18-0-1.
The Bullpups were on the wrong side of a favorable call for Eisenhower early in the first half, as Eisenhower scored on a free-kick. It didn’t get much better for the ‘Pups from there as they trailed 3-0 at the half and never truly recovered. Eisenhower scored two quick goals after halftime to make it 5-0 and added two more salt-in-the-wound goals in the remainder of the second half. The Bullpups could only manage four shots on goal.
This game, in more than one way, was an anomaly. The Bullpups hadn’t been shut out once all season, and they also hadn’t allowed more than four goals in a game. It was a sad way to end a season that was so great. Eight seniors were significant contributors to this team and their contributions will be missed next season. The Bullpups should be proud of their great season and making it as far as they did.
