Crash Closes Traffic on US 81

A vehicle wreck involving an SUV and a truck carrying anhydrous ammonia closed down southbound traffic on U.S. Highway 81 and Avenue A for approximately 20 minutes this afternoon around 1:30 p.m. Traffic is being rerouted at the Kansas Avenue and Highway 81 intersection. McPherson Police, McPherson Fire Department and McPherson Emergency Services personnel responded to the scene. No ammonia is known to be leaking in the area. Injuries are unknown at this time.

Update: More Information Released on Robbery, Kidnapping Charges

Daniel Le’Voughnte Preston, 24, was booked into the McPherson County Jail at 10:03 a.m., Nov. 25 on the charges of kidnapping, robbery and probation violation. In District court he is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond for the charge of kidnapping, no bond for the charge of robbery and $500 for the charge of probation violation. In addition, he is being held in lieu of a $310 bond for a failure to appear charge in the McPherson Municipal Court.

USD 418 School Board Meeting Recap Nov. 25

The USD 418 Board of Education held a regular meeting on Monday at the district central office. The board kicked off the meeting with a recognition of the State 5A Tennis Doubles Champions, Taylor Bruce and CeAnna Allen.  Last year, the duo finished fourth in the state. When asked what was different this year, Taylor responded, “Being my senior year, I knew it was my last chance. I just left it all out there. “

MMS Basketball Roundup

8th Grade Girls The 8th Grade girls teams were both active over the weekend and on Monday night. On Saturday, the A-team beat Hays 45-19. Karter Alvord scored 16 points, and Kaya Lowery nearly matched her with 14. Coach Ellie Wingert struck a positive tone after the game, “The girls had a nice win over Hays tonight.  We got into foul trouble right from the start, but that challenged the girls to move their feet more on defense.  We did a better job rebounding tonight, and the ladies did a nice job of driving to the hoop…They played aggressive on both sides
