The McPherson Area Habitat for Humanity finished the home at 615 S. Chestnut St., with the official dedication taking place Nov. 24.
“I’d like to like to congratulate Habitat for Humanity in finishing the house on South Chestnut,” McPherson Mayor Tom Brown said. “So another job well done by a great group of volunteers.”
McPherson Area Habitat for Humanity is the local facet of a global, nonprofit organization. This housing organization operates on Christian principles to eliminate housing issues through construction and rehabilitation of houses. They also advocate for fair housing policies. In addition, they provide training and resources for those in shelter conditions.
The house on South Chestnut Stree went to Sherrie Rickerson and her family.
“Sherrie Rickerson and her family officially started moving in (Monday) afternoon after we had the dedication,” Brown said. “Sherrie has moved from homeless to an employee of STEP MC helping other people. It’s great to see her in that house and having a place to live without having to worry about where she is going to be next month.”
In 25 years, McPherson Area habitat For Humanity has built 29 homes, helping 33 families. All of that was possible through the generosity of 75,000 hours of volunteer work.
