Both 8th-Grade Girls teams were in action last night against Maize South. Unfortunately, both teams lost. The A-team lost 26-35, and the B-team lost 18-31.
The A-team played South pretty close and had good performances by a couple of key players. Karter Alvord had 15 points, and Reanna Eilrich had 6 points. Coach T.J. Jackson chalked the loss up to South’s post play, “Losing is obviously never fun and it shouldn’t be because these girls have worked pretty hard, but there’s still more in their tank. I need to make sure we are prepared better for a bigger post like we played tonight, and I need to make sure our expectations continue to increase as we go through the season.”. Jackson struck a positive note about the upcoming game against Hutchinson, “The ladies will come back better because of this and I am confident that the Hutchinson game will look far different. These ladies won’t settle for this type of game again.”. This was the team’s first loss of the season and only their second truly competitive game.
The B-team had great performances from their usual suspects, Jayla McLeod and Kyndall Sandbo, who both had 6 points. They just couldn’t generate enough offense to compete with Maize South’s high-octane offense. Coach Ellie Wingert said after the game, “The first half was a very even game, and we went into half time tied. After half, we started making some bad passes, and this gave Maize a lead. We struggled getting into our offense tonight, because of these bad passes. I’m excited to have a week of practice coming up so we can improve upon these mistakes! This game gave us a lot to work on, and I’m excited to continue to see this group grow!””.
