The McPherson High School boys swim team looks to end the year with a bang before going on Christmas break. The Bullpups will compete at Wichita Heights on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Unlike past meets, that were more championship-style, some of the upcoming events will have a little bit of a wrinkle to them.
“This meet is a little different than our usual championship-style meets and is instead a relay exhibition meet, including everything from three-man relays to an ugly Christmas sweater relay,” Head Coach Matt Cotton said. “I have to admit when we booked this meet (after running into a scheduling conflict with one of our usual events) I didn’t realize entirely what we’d be getting into here, but the more I think about it the more I think it will be a really fun experience for us.”
The Bullpup swimmers will only have nine making the trip, but Cotton doesn’t seem concerned despite being at a disadvantage.
“It was a struggle trying to figure out how to optimize our points scoring potential and still give guys enough time to rest between events since it also throws everything we know about the regular pacing of a meet completely off,” Cotton said.
Cotton hopes to have a big crowd from the McPherson supporters. This meet is also a fundraiser for the Wichita Food Bank. For tickets, you can bring canned goods or make a $2 donation.
