Bullpup Wrestlers Busy this Weekend

It’s going to be a busy three days for the McPherson High School wrestling team. Today, the boys will travel to Augusta for a league dual beginning at 6 p.m.

The Bullpups are 9-1 on the season after competing in the Colby Eagles Invite, where they finished second behind Dodge City. Augusta will be McPherson’s second-league dual this season. The Bullpups are 1-0 after beating El Dorado High School.

“Looking forward to the Augusta dual,” Head Coach Doug Kretzer said. “They have good numbers, so we should get a lot of matches.  They’ve got some tough kids and I expect it to be a very competitive dual.”

For the girls, the Lady Pups will make a trip to Abilene for the Abilene Invitational, where the Bullpups, ranked No. 1 in the state, will face some quality competitors.  The tournament will begin on Friday at 5 p.m and will conclude on Saturday at 9 a.m.

“Abilene will be a very tough tournament,” Kretzer said. “Marysville, Pratt, Phillipsburg, and McPherson are all ranked in the top 10.  Then you add Abilene, Basehor-Linwood, Buhler, Santa Fe Trail, Salina Central, Silver Lake, and Smoky Valley will round out very competitive brackets.   We’re excited about this event.”
