  Sports Editor Peter Holland Jr.  WINFIELD—The McPherson High School boys basketball will enjoy the holiday break reaching above .500 after steamrolling Winfield High School 66-30.  The Bullpups now improve to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in the AVCTL Division III League. Winfield lacked height and length compared to McPherson. Lady Pups Off To 5-0 Start After Rolling Over Winfield

WINFIELD— There’s nothing like ending the semester undefeated, and that was goal Head Coach Chris Strathman wanted for his McPherson High School girls basketball team. Trial Set in State vs. Travis Belt

For the second time, Travis Belt is preparing to face a jury of his peers. Accused of the same crimes as before, Belt, 27, of Little River, is charged with five felony charges including first-degree premeditated murder of 58-year-old McPherson resident Steven Carlson who was found dead in his home at 548 Eshelman in April 2017. The original charges were filed in 2017.

Sports Writer Quincy Williams The McPherson Middle school’s four basketball teams nearly completed a full sweep of Newton on Thursday night. The lone loss came in the 8B boy’s team game, and even in that loss, they held the lead going into the fourth. Overall, all four teams look to be in great shape going into Christmas Break. The 8A girl’s team beat Newton 43-25, improving their record to 9-1. Their only loss came to a non-league opponent, Maize South. Karter Alvord and Alex Romero led the charge. Sports Editor Peter Holland Jr. WICHITA—It was the Christmas relay that keeps on giving in Wichita Heights as the McPherson High School boys swim team finished third on Thursday despite missing some of its swimmers. The Bullpups traveled only nine swimmers during the exhibition event. Justus Hampton was one of the swimmers missing, but after making some adjustments in the lineup, the Bullpups still managed to score a total of 164 points, falling behind Wichita Heights (282) and Bishop Carroll (196). “We were spread pretty thin with each swimmer only being able to swim four races.
