SALINA— The McPherson Middle School girls basketball teams were at Salina on Thursday night, while the boys stayed home to take on Salina South.
The eighth-grade girls A team. dominated Salina South, 41-18. Madi Moors led with 14 points. Most of them came shooting four three-pointers. Head Coach T.J. Jackson was impressed by his team performance.
“The ladies played solid on both end of the court,” Jackson said. “South has two girls who know how to score inside and out, and our ladies did such a great job not allowing them much easy near the bucket and we’re in their face most of the time on outside shots. So proud of the ladies’ progress defensively and their willingness to play smart basketball to help each other.”
The B Team was not so lucky as they lost 32-19. According to Head Coach Ellie Wingert, things weren’t going the B team’s way all night but is confident that the ladies will finish strong next week when they take on Hutchinson.
“Although we didn’t come away with the outcome we would have liked, I was proud of how these girls never gave up, and how well they shot from the free-throw line tonight,” Wingert said. “We were able to get most of the girls in the A-game following this game, and we saw improvement in these areas already. I’m excited to have a week of practice before our next game, so we can finish our season strong.”
