USD 418 announces Teacher of the Year nominees


McPherson USD 418 released its nominees for 2019-20 Teacher of the Year. Here are the nominees:

-Eisenhower: Marci Ruxlow

Marci teaches Kindergarten at Eisenhower. She was born and raised in McPherson. She received her Bachelors from Southwestern College and her Masters from McPherson College. Marci has/is serving on the following: MEA Treasurer, negotiations team, EES building representative, District English/Language committee, Building Rep/Redesign Team and Building Social Committee. Her hobbies include traveling, decorating and spending time with family and friends.

-Lincoln: Brittney Jennings

Brittney teaches Kindergarten at Lincoln. She was raised in McPherson. She received her Bachelors and Masters from McPherson College. Brittney’s hobbies include reading, watching Netflix and Hulu and “tending to the farm” in their back yard.

-Roosevelt: Ashley McAllister

Ashley teaches 5thgrade at Roosevelt. Ashley was born in Smith Center and raised in McPherson. She received her Bachelors from Emporia and will begin work in May for her Masters. She has been on several committees: Building Technology Representative, Redesign Team, District’s ELA Committee, Supplemental Committee and a mentor. Ashley has a daughter Kenzley, 3rd grade and son Jesse, Kindergarten. Her hobbies include reading, playing volleyball, attending children’s activities, children’s ministry and spending time with family and friends.

-Washington: Sarah Razak

Sarah teaches 4thgrade at Washington. Sarah was raised in Assaria. She received her Bacehelors from Fort Hays and Masters from Emporia. Sarah and her husband, Keith, have 3 sons: Braden, Sophomore – Ian, 7th grade and Jensen, 4thgrade. Her hobbies include playing volleyball, reading and her favorite hobby is watching her boys playing in their activities.

-Middle School: Sarah Hendricks

Sarah teaches 6th& 7th grades English/Language Arts at the middle school. She was born and raised in McPherson. She received her Bachelors from McPherson College and is currently working towards her Masters. Sarah and husband, Darren, have Rachael who lives and works in Manhattan, son Joel is a junior at the high school and Renae is an 8thgrader at the middle school. Her favorite hobbies are spending time with her family, walking her dog, watching Netflix, reading and enjoying her husband’s cooking.

-Middle School: John Montgomery

John teaches 7th & 8th grade SPS at the middle school. He was born in Blue Springs, Missouri and moved to Derby after middle school. John received his Bachelors and Masters from Fort Hays. He has been recognized as “Kansas Strength Coach of the Year Finalist”, State of Kansas/National Character Development Award Winner and Fort Hays Top Professor Award. John and wife Kristen, have a son Mark, who is 7 and a daughter Kora, who is 4. John’s hobbies include barbequing and enjoy the great outdoors.

-High School: David Maxey

David teaches 9-12th grades AP Environmental Science, AP Biology and Biology at the high school. David was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. He attended Colorado State University and McPherson College. He received the “Research Merit Award” from McPherson College. David’s hobbies include skydiving, hiking, mountain biking and fly fishing.

-High School: Greg McGlynn

Greg teaches Theatre I, II, Advance Acting and Stage Craft Design I & II at the high school. Greg was born and raised in Sterling. He received his Bachelors from Sterling College and his Masters from Friends University. Greg has many theatre honors including State Honor Show Director, MTW Jester Awards, established the Larry Shue Playwright Award, and most recently was honored to direct “Noises Off” at the 2019 International Thespian Festival. Greg and his wife Carrie have a son James and a daughter, Kate. Greg’s hobbies include working on their farm, driving a John Deere in the field or driving his great grandfather’s 1929 Ford Model AA truck in parades.
