As you maneuver through the turn of the New Year, we would like to highlight the proper way to turn on multi-lane roadways. To decrease the potential of a collision and for your safety and the safety of other motorists, please review the standard traffic ordinance and accompanying illustration.
In brief, Standard Traffic Ordinance (STO) Sec. 49 (a) states; the driver of a vehicle intending to turn shall do the following. Drivers intending to turn right shall both approach a right turn and turn right as close to the right curb or edge of the roadway as possible. Drivers intending to turn left shall approach the turn in the extreme left-hand lane which is lawfully available to traffic moving in the direction of travel as such vehicle. The driver shall then turn into the left most center lane which is lawfully available to traffic moving in the same direction as such vehicle on the roadway being entered.
As you drive, please be attentive and look both ways before turning. We do not want your next turn, to be costly.
