In its first collaborative effort with another McPherson organization – the McPherson Opera House – on Feb. 15 and 16, McPherson Community Theatre is presenting “A Night of Broadway”; a program filled with some of the greatest and most memorable music performed on the Great White Way. Featuring songs from Fiddler on the Roof, Chicago, Cinderella, Little Shop of Horrors, and many more! The show will be an opportunity to show support to the McPherson Opera House, as proceeds will go to benefit the beautiful venue.
“MCT strives to not only provide an outlet for the arts in our community, but to also give back and support those organizations which are so important to our town and our community as a whole,” says McPherson Community Theatre Board President, Skye Colaw. “The Opera House has become a second home to us, and we would not be who we are today without the constant support, encouragement, and collaboration with the Opera House and it’s staff.”
Performing on the Opera House stage since its reopening in January 2010, MCT has been presenting plays and musicals every year, twice a year, ranging from “Fiddler on the Roof” to “The Addams Family.” “A Night of Broadway” is a celebration of MCT’s history and of everything the future has in store for it, including continued partnership with the Opera House.
The addition of this musical revue is part of MCT’s plan to present more productions to the community. It also plans to continue the recent addition of a summer children’s production.
MCT hopes that these activities provide opportunity for more people to be involved. “Our performers and crew come from every corner of our McPherson community,” Colaw says, “Not only do we have people who’ve studied theatre their whole lives, but we have doctors, teachers, retail workers, students, and many more who come together to create something that has never been presented the same way before. I think that’s really what art and theatre
are about.”
“We’re delighted that our friends at Community Theatre are donating their time and talent to support the Opera House,” says McPherson Opera House Executive Director, Diane Fallis. “We love playing host to their performances. Our great relationship is so important. It combines beautifully to showcase the brilliance of the Opera House theatre and the amazing talent of our area residents.” Adding, “McPherson is truly blessed to have these two very active organizations available to promote the arts in the community. We hope everyone will come out to support not only the Opera House, but our enormously talented friend. And, like every other
MCT production, it’s guaranteed to be a great show!”
Showtimes are Feb. 15, at 7 p.m., and Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 and $20, all inclusive, and available at http://www.mcphersonoperahouse.org, by calling 620-241-1952, or visiting the box office at 219 S. Main Street, McPherson.
