TOWANDA— The McPherson High School girls basketball team made it out of Towanda as the last undefeated team standing in the AVCTL Division III Standings. The Lady Pups beat Circle High School 45-34, improving to 10-0 and 5-0 in league play.

The Bullpups were without Lakyn Schieferecke as she was inactive due to an illness but Emma Ruddle made her return to the starting lineup and no questions she was a difference-maker.

Ruddle finished the night with 10 points, seven came in the second half. Kassidy Beam set the tone for the Bullpups by knocking back-to-back three-pointers but since then the Bullpups struggled to get in a rhythm offensively until later in the third quarter.  Circle went on a 7-0 run and have scored off McPherson’s turnovers, and would tie 10 each by end of the first.

Grace Pyle got into some foul troubles with three in the first half, but Beam kept McPherson together as the junior had 14 points in the first half and led McPherson 22 points the whole game.

Both teams went back-and-forth in lead changes until the Bullpups got their first two-possession lead since the first quarter after trailing 21-20 at halftime. The Lady Pups finally had a little bit of breathing room in the third quarter when they found Cassie Cooks inside as she picked up five points after going scoreless in the first half. The Bullpups held the T-Birds to just 13 points in the second half.
