The McPherson Middle School boys basketball team took on Maize South on Thursday on the road. The Eighth-grade team ended in a split, while the seventh graders swept Maize South.
The eighth-grade A team played in high-scoring game but unfortunately fell short in their 62-53 loss. The A-team suffered their first loss of the year. Owen Pyle was the top scorer with 14 points The B-team was victorious as they defeated Maize South 39-14. Henry Boese was the top scorer with 14 points.

MMS A: Pyle 14 pts, Wedel 10 pts., Alexander 7 pts., Boese 7 pts., Muehler 6 pts. Kanitz 5 pts., Robertson 3 pts.
MMS B: Boese 14 pts., Fetsch 9 pts., Wheat 6 pts., Luttig 4 pts., Thompson 2 pts., Wilgers 2 pts., Witte 2 pts.,
The seventh-grade A team had a dominating performance in their 49-4 win. Gabe Pyle led with 18 points. It was a complete defensive shut down for the A-team and they were rewarded by making their baskets.
“It was nice to bounce back after the loss from Hutchinson,” Head Coach Tyler Brown said. “We pretty much were able to do what we wanted all four quarters. After the first quarter it was 18-0 and by halftime it was 33-0. We came out in the 3rd quarter and only gave up two free throws and by the end of the third it was 41-2. And in the fourth quarter we kept it up and closed out the game with a final score of 49-4.”
The B team was in a tight ballgame but came through with a 30-24 win. Alec Harms and Brenden Doile tied with eight points. Paul Reichenberger was pleased with his team’s effort.
