Obituary: LaUna Elsasser

Eva LaUna Elsasser, 88, of Lindsborg, Kansas, passed away at 4:07 p.m., Thursday, January 30th, 2020 peacefully, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg, Kansas.

LaUna was born on her parents’ homestead, rural Miltonvale, Kansas on December 21, 1931, the daughter of Bessie LaUna (Lacy) and Jettie LeRoy Fuller.

LaUna attended the Miltonvale grade schools and graduated from Miltonvale High School, Miltonvale, Kansas.  She then attended and graduated from Brown Mackie Business School, Salina, Kansas. She worked as a bookkeeper and later in life as a realtor.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas and was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in McPherson where she was a member of a Circle.

LaUna enjoyed helping others, visiting and keeping up with everyone, visiting her grandchildren, and spending time with family.

LaUna Fuller was united in marriage to  LaVern Henry “Abe” Blanken on March 9, 1952 at Miltonvale, Kansas.  The couple established their first home together in Clay Center, Kansas.  This union was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Betty.  LaVern died on June 30, 1964.  LaUna Blanken was united in marriage to Christian Charles “Chris” Elsasser on November 19, 1965 at McPherson, Kansas.  The couple established their first home together in McPherson and this union was blessed with the birth of a daughter, Christine.  Chris died on August 1, 1987.

She is survived by her children, Betty Herbert and husband Mark, of Wichita, Kansas and Christine Curl and husband Chad, of Moundridge, Kansas; her step-children, Karen Miller, of Derby, Kansas, Douglas Elsasser and wife Marilyn, of Derby, Kansas, and Arlie Elsasser, of Lincoln, Nebraska; her 14 grandchildren, Allen Herbert, Daniel Herbert, Jill Herbert, Alyssa Powers, Kalyn Powers, Megan Powers, Sofia Trawkowski, Jason Miller, Amanda Boone, Elise Ash, Michael Elsasser, Kara Flaharty, Clinton Elsasser, and Troy Elsasser; numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, LaVern Blanken and Chris Elsasser; her brothers, Lee, Kenneth, James, and Jettie Fuller; and sister Genevieve Condray.

Memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 with The Reverend Tim Leaf officiating.

Burial will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas at a later date.
