United Way Surpasses Goal

United Way of McPherson County announced it had made its $250,000 goal last week. After the announcement the generosity kept flowing in and the final total raised was $256,406.27. “Reaching our goal for the second year in a row exemplifies the spirit of McPherson County,” said United Way Campaign Chair Kipp Cordell. “Like the United Way of McPherson County and its agencies, the residents of the county are always ready and willing to help. Obituary: Dennis Lynn Rayl

Dennis Lynn Rayl, 57, of Hutchinson, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2020, surrounded by his family at Hospice House, Hutchinson.  Dennis owned and operated B & B Hydraulics, Inc. in Hutchinson. Dennis was born on March 13, 1962, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Gary D. and Betty Joan (Farney) Rayl.  He graduated from Buhler High School in 1980 and received an associate degree in Diesel Mechanics from Hutchinson Community College in 1982.  He graduated from Salina Area Vocational Technical School in 1984. McPherson College Students Host Fourth Graders

McPherson College opened its labs to future scientists when approximately 100 fourth graders from Washington and Lincoln elementary schools participated in a science day hosted by the college’s Pre-Health Professions Club on Feb. 3. The club hosts the event every year and is something members look forward to, according to Garrett Owen, president of PHP. “It’s our biggest event,” Owen said. “We really appreciate the schools’ participating in it. Bullpup Wrestlers Win At Fredonia

Sports Editor Peter Holland Jr. FREDONIA— The McPherson High School girls wrestling team left last weekend victorious at the Fredonia Invitational. The Bullpups score a total of 123 points, edging out Fort Scott High School (118).  Kaleigh Marbut McPherson’s top wrestler as she was the only Bullpup to take first place after going 4-0 in her 123-pound weight class. Free Hearing Screening Feb. 28

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 28 McPherson Masonic Lodge No. 172, 311 S. Main St., will be hosting free hearing screening tests offered by Fort Hays State University. There is no cost for the screenings. People are encouraged to schedule an appointment by calling or texting 479-549-5058 or email to carrs@cox.net. There is no charge and nothing is being sold. Participants will be given the results of the screening to take to their own medical professionals. Screenings take approximately 20 minutes. Please schedule an appointment or drop in.
