May Lillian Juhnke, 101, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 7:10 p.m., Sunday, March 1st, 2020 while in the company of family members, at Kidron Bethel Village, Newton, Kansas.
May was born in Freeman, South Dakota on March 1, 1919, a daughter of William J. and Elizabeth P. (Graber) Senner.
May attended rural country school and Freeman Academy, Freeman, South Dakota. May then attended Bethel Deaconess School of Nursing, Newton, Kansas.
She was a member of Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge and a former member of the Salem Mennonite Church in Freeman, South Dakota.
Through the years May worked as a Registered nurse for Northview Manor, McPherson Hospital, McPherson, Kansas and Newton Deaconess Hospital, Newton, Kansas.
She was a member of the Mennonite Nurses Association, Bethel Alumni Association, and the American Nurses Association and she was a life member of Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.
May enjoyed volunteering at the Etcetera Shop, Newton, Kansas, gardening, cooking, loved her nursing friends, and spending time with her friends and family.
May L. Senner was united in marriage to Marvin R. Juhnke on August 12, 1948 at Freeman, South Dakota. He died on December 12, 1999.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry Juhnke and his wife DeDe, of Wichita, Kansas and Tom Juhnke and his wife Diane, of Durham, North Carolina.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ben Juhnke(Emily), Gabe Juhnke(Hannah), Katya Reno and Julian MacDonald and great-grandchildren, Hope Juhnke, Ellie Juhnke, August Juhnke, Henri Reno, Olyver Reno and Nika MacDonald.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; sisters, Katheryn Senner and Hazel Buhler and her brothers, Ray Senner and Robert Senner.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Funeral Chapel.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge, Kansas with Pastor Derek King officiating.
Burial will be at Eden Church Cemetery Moundridge, Kansas.
