Obituary: Velma L. Jones

Velma L. Jones, 88, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2020, surrounded by family at Loving Care of McPherson.  She was born on February 19, 1932, in McPherson, the daughter of Henry and Pearl Rickner.  She was a graduate of McPherson High School and worked at Nations Bank for 21 years, retiring in 1997.  Previous to that, she had worked at McPherson & Citizens State Bank and C & I Bank in Memphis, TN. All School’s Day Virtual Button Hunt

There will be one event for the 107th McPherson County All Schools Day Celebration. Although the 2020 All Schools Day events were cancelled March 18th due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, the Virtual Button Hunt can still take place and it will begin Wednesday May 6th. The virtual button hunt, sponsored this year by First Bank Kansas, was started in 2017 in conjunction with the medallion hunt which has been part of All Schools Day for many years. Scott Bains, Jr., 64, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 5:05 a.m., Sunday, May 3rd, 2020 in the company of his loving wife, at his residence. Scott was born in Winter Park, Florida on June 29, 1955, a son of  Alberta Mae (Williams) Jones and William Scott Bains, Sr. Scott attended the Winter Park Schools in Florida. McPherson County Covid-19 Update 5.4.20

McPherson County Health Department reports 23 total confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in McPherson County. 16 of the total confirmed cases have now met recovery guidelines set forth by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Two of the total confirmed cases are currently hospitalized. The latest identified positive case is a female in her 50s with unknown exposure and is hospitalized. Nothing further about the patient will be released at this time. Symptoms for COVID-19 appear 2-14 days after exposure and include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
