Two Active Cases of COVID-19 at McPherson College

McPherson College and the McPherson County Health Department are investigating two active cases of COVID-19 on our campus.  The individuals have been in quarantine since they were tested and are now in isolation off-campus.  The college is assisting local health officials to trace contacts. The McPherson County Health Department will contact anybody who has been exposed.  The health department defines exposure as a contact for 10 minutes or more without a mask or social distancing.  This is the first reported cluster of cases to occur at McPherson College.

Obituary: Jerry Dean Barber

Jerry Dean Barber, 67, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:23 p.m., Friday, June 12th, 2020 while in the company of family members, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, Kansas. Jerry was born in Jacksonville, Illinois on April 17, 1953, the eldest son of John Jerome and Mary Jane (Hughes) Barber. Jerry attended Washington and Jefferson grade schools, Jonathon Turner Junior High, and graduated from Jacksonville High School, Jacksonville, Illinois in 1971. Officer-involved shooting near Salina

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in Saline County.  The Salina Police Department contacted the KBI at approximately 4:10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, to request assistance investigating multiple shooting scenes. UPDATE: Additional arrest made in Greenwood County homicide

BUTLER COUNTY– The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office have made an additional arrest connected to the murder of 78-year-old Danny Shue of Eureka, Kan. On Thursday, Aug. 27, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Leon A. Lindsay, 34, of El Dorado, was arrested at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office for felony murder, aggravated burglary, felony theft, and conspiracy to commit felony theft. Driver education programs can receive financial assistance

A new Driver Education Reimbursement Grant Program has been established to provide financial assistance to driver’s education programs to help individuals who may not have been able to participate otherwise. The program is part of the Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE) passed by the Kansas Legislature this spring. “Young drivers are overrepresented in traffic crashes,” said Secretary Julie Lorenz. “This new IKE program provides increased resources to driver education programs so they can train new Kansas drivers to navigate roadways in a safer manner.” The driver education provider will be reimbursed up to $200 per eligible student who completes the

Richard Jacob “Dick” Pfalzgraf, 91, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 7:35 a.m., Thursday, August 27th, 2020 while in the company of family members, at Brookdale McPherson. Dick was born in Arkansas City, Kansas on January 22, 1929, a son of Charles Archer and Esther Gertrude (Brooks) Pfalzgraf. McPherson Crime Statistics for 2019 Released

The McPherson crime statistics were released to the public today by Police Chief Mikel Golden. There were 2,248 more calls for police service in 2019 than there were in 2018. There were 152 more arrests and 1,001 more citations. The KBI total index crimes, however, were down by 42. There were 26 violent crimes that occurred in McPherson in 2019, two more than occurred in 2018. There were no murders that occurred in McPherson in 2019.
