McPherson College Honors Employees’ Years of Service

McPHERSON, KAN. – McPherson College celebrated a combined total of more than 270 years of service to the college when it recognized faculty, staff, and board of trustee members. Faculty and staff were treated to a drive-through dinner and awards presentation on campus. This year’s event replaced the reception and dinner traditionally held honoring those who have served the college from five to 30 years. The Youth Services Department at the McPherson Public Library is pleased to announce the start of another reading challenge. The 5 Kinds of Nonfiction Reading Challenge begins on March 1st and runs throughout the month. This challenge is sponsored by Lerner Publishing in celebration of National Reading Month, which inspires and motivates all ages to read every day. The challenge is customized to encourage PreK-12 readers to explore their favorite nonfiction topics and themes throughout March. Obituary: Judith Lavonne (Wiggins) Potter

Judith Lavonne (Wiggins) Potter was born May 25, 1940, in Kermit, TX, the oldest child and only daughter of Vaughn E. and Edna M. (Glendening) Wiggins. The family moved to McPherson when Judy was a young child and she attended McPherson schools, graduating from McPherson Senior High School in 1958. She continued her education at Central College, now Central Christian College of Kansas, receiving her AA degree in 1960. On June 19, 1959, Judy married Larry E. Potter. The couple moved to Denver, CO in 1960 but soon returned to McPherson to raise their four children, Susan Lavonne, Sarah Diane,

Obituary: Jimmy Ray Geren

Jimmy Ray Geren, 81, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at his home in McPherson.  He retired from Johns Manville. Jim was born September 13, 1939, in Independence, KS, the son of Floyd Ray and Ora Jane (Musgrove) Geren.  Jim was united in marriage to Marsha K. Graham, and this union was blessed with three children, Brenda, Allen, and Kevin.  He later married Susan Woodring.  She preceded him in death on November 19, 2018. Survivors include: three children, Brenda Hoffman (Tom) of McPherson, KS, Allen Geren (Susan) of Galva, KS, and Kevin Geren (Janet) of Marion, KS; four siblings,

MRC Competitive Baseball and Fast Pitch Leagues

The McPherson Recreation Commission is partnering with the Hutchinson Recreation Commission to bring to the McPherson Community a competitive Baseball and Fast Pitch leagues for youth this summer. The leagues will begin for athletes 8 years old and under to 14 years old and under. Parents can submit rosters and payment are due by April 2, 2021 by 8:30pm.
