James “Jim” B. Batson, 87, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 12, 2021, surrounded by family at McPherson Hospital. He worked for over 35 years at Kansas Power & Light where he was a welding supervisor.
Jim was born on June 21, 1933, in Wellington, KS, the son of William Lee and Erma Fae (Turpin) Batson. He graduated from McPherson High School and attended McPherson College. On July 5, 1952, Jim was united in marriage to Lucille W. Flory in McPherson.
He was a member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren. He was an avid golfer and was the first member of Turkey Creek Golf Course. He enjoyed racing go-carts, water skiing, and boating.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucille of the home; three children, Cindy Kaufman (Cameron) of Buhler, KS, Janet Barthman (Mike) of Abilene, KS, and Bruce Batson of Wichita, KS; a brother, Jerry Batson of McPherson, KS; special friends, Harold and Penny Selzer of McPherson, KS; twelve grandchildren, Chris Cheesman (Mandy), Joseph Kaufman (Blanca), Katie Heller (Joe), Ian Tinsley (Bridgette), Brook Batson, Nick Batson, Stefanie Osborne (Dave), Jeremy Batson (Ashley), Eric Batson, Kelly Batson, Erica Selzer, and Patrick Selzer (Katie); and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William Batson and Donald Batson; and a son, Wayne Batson.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The family asks that attendees wear masks. The final resting place will be at Washington Creek Cemetery in Lawrence, KS.
