KDOT announces aviation art contest winners

The Kansas Department of Transportation announces winners of the 2020 Kansas Aviation Art Contest. The contest is designed to challenge young people to use creative expression through art to illustrate the importance of aviation. Artists ages 6-17 were divided in three age categories (junior, intermediate and senior) to create art that celebrates the adventure and excitement of aviation. The theme for this year’s contest was “Flying Yesterday and Tomorrow.” “With over 300 entrants from across the state, it’s obvious the passion for aviation still beats loud in the hearts of Kansas’ young people,” said Bob Brock, KDOT Director of Aviation.

Roosevelt Elementary Hosting an “Art Night” Showcasing Students Art

Roosevelt is hosting a Chili, Bingo and Art Show Night this Thursday from 6:00 – 7:30 PM.  The school hosted a Chili and Bingo Night last year at Roosevelt, this is a revised version of that. Public Library to Host Reception for Artist Jon Flory Schrock

10th Annual Dyck Arboretum Leprechaun Run Coming up

On Saturday, March 14, Dyck Arboretum will celebrate its 10th Annual Go Green Leprechaun Run. As in years past, the event will include a 10K race and 2 Mile fun run/walk for all ages, with St Patrick’s Day-themed refreshments and a medal ceremony. Betty Ann Buhrman, 83, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, surrounded by her family at Brookdale in Salina, KS.  She had been a hairstylist/licensed cosmetologist for over 50 years and owned and operated Betty’s Beauty Salon in Wisner, NE and Magic Mirror in McPherson, KS. She was born December 22, 1936, in Beemer, NE, the daughter of Orville W. and LaVern H.
