Volleyball USA: Swanson spends holiday break at Team USA training program

Sports Editor Peter Holland Jr. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Rhian Swanson represents McPherson High School for volleyball, but she could also represent her country as a 15-year old. Swanson was among 36 volleyball players invited to the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado to participate in the 2019 Girls Incoming Youth Holiday National Training Team Program. This five-day training program was held for all the top young volleyball players in the country to interact with one another while preparing for the 2020 Girls NORCECA’s U18 Continental Championships, which will be held in Honduras this coming summer. Girls Signing Day

On Wednesday afternoon five McPherson girls made the biggest choice of their life so far, where to go to college. Friends, supporters, family, and coaches all gathered to witness their signing in a ceremony at the Little Theater in McPherson High School.   All five girls are great athletes who have made significant contributions to their sports teams and the community at McPherson High.   Taylor Bruce committed to Fort Hays State University to continue her tennis career. Bulldogs Down Avila

McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson Bulldogs Volleyball team beat the Avila Eagles Tuesday night, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-15. The Bulldogs move to 14-11 on the season with a 6-5 record in KCAC play. The Bulldogs began the match somewhat lethargically, before rallying back to win some points at the end of the first set. After their uninspiring opening salvo, they came out much more locked in for the second set and jumped out to an immediate lead. Bullpups Lose Sub-State Match vs Andover

The McPherson Girls Volleyball team put forth a valiant effort on Saturday. They first faced Goddard Eisenhower and won, 25-21, 25-19. Coach Christy Doile said, ” We played very well against a good Eisenhower team.  Set 1 we didn’t have the lead until the end of the set at 21-20. I had to call a time-out when we were down by 3 in the middle of the set.  We finished the set very strong.  Set 2 we jumped out to a big lead and Eisenhower came back, took the lead 14-13. McPherson Bulldogs Volleyball loses to Sterling

McPherson, Kan. – The Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker to the Sterling College Warriors Saturday night 22-25,17-25, 25-22, 23-25. The Bulldogs have been hit hard by the injury bug as of late, so against the Warriors, they integrated players who hadn’t seen much time this season into the lineup. The lineup changes seemed to affect the team chemistry, especially early in the match.
