Three women shared their stories of service Tuesday evening at the McPherson American Legion Post 24. The presentation was a part of a monthly event held at the Legion known as Veteran’s Story Night, held the third Tuesday of every month. A meal is provided, and each veteran receives two free drinks as well. The 32nd McPherson County Toy’s For Kids kickoff will be held Saturday with meet up for the toy run at noon in the Walmart parking lot, 205 Centennial Drive. The parade will begin at 1 p.m. followed by a chili feed and auction at the McPherson American Legion Post 24, 401 N. Main St. The festivities will also include door prizes and fun for all ages.

On Nov. 19 the McPherson American Legion Post 24 once again provided a venue for local heroes to tell their stories. This time two of McPherson’s finest…law enforcement that is, told their stories about before they became one of the “boys in blue.” Both prior service military, they spoke of their journeys through the ranks.

A decision was made to cancel the Parade for Veterans Day. The parade was scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.  The commanders of the McPherson VFW, the McPherson American Legion and the chairman of the Area Veterans made this decision.

Chairman of the McPherson Area Veterans Committee Dan Hervey, released details for Veterans Day activities to be held in McPherson on Nov. 11. The day will begin with a free breakfast sponsored by Kindred Hospice for veterans and guest at the Legion Hall from 8 to 10 a.m. Reservations should be called in to 620-245-0891. The American Legion will have a special museum display of various military items from the collection of Dennis Brown.
