This week, we had a good laugh at the expense of a “dramatic” labradoodle who simply refused to go to bed. Additionally, our hearts were filled with joy as we witnessed the heartwarming rescue of 29 dogs who were saved from a dog fighting ring in South Carolina. These incredible animals now have a second chance at life and are on their way to finding loving forever homes.
Readers have been sending us their pictures and videos of their pets for our weekly Pet of the Week feature at Newsweek.

The Winner
This Article Includes
Meet Pecorella, a charming 22-month-old golden retriever residing in Switzerland with her owner, Fotis. She is our delightful Pet of the Week!
Pecorella, a lively and spirited pup, exudes an abundance of playful energy, even at the age of almost 2 years. Recently, she was caught on camera showcasing her innate instincts by gleefully engaging with a sock, as if it were a captivating prey.
“Fotis joked, saying, ‘Fair game!'”
The smart puppy is fluent in three languages – English, Greek, and Italian – and thoroughly enjoys playing with socks and toys.
According to Fotis, in an interview with Newsweek, he mentioned that she is an excellent learner and often uses her bark as a way to entice others. He also mentioned that she is skilled in various activities such as dog basketball, dog football, and retrieving toys, where she can even put back her 20-plus toys into the basket.
The Finalists
Meet Snow, a feline with a unique disposition. This adorable cat seems oblivious to the fact that he is, in fact, a cat.
According to Bridget Abernathy, the owner, her pet behaves more like a dog or a human on most occasions. She mentioned to Newsweek, “When we call him, he eagerly comes running to us and jumps on our laps. Afterwards, he playfully rolls over and seeks to be cradled like a baby.”
Snow, with his active personality and slight misunderstanding of his own species, shares his living space with Samantha, a fellow feline who exudes a true cat energy.
Abernathy affectionately mentioned, “Samantha, our other cat, embodies every well-known stereotype about cats to the fullest extent. It’s truly fascinating to witness the unique personalities of our pets.”
Next in line is Zipper Hercules, a name given to him due to the distinctive zipper-like line that runs down his face.
Jennifer Smith, the owner, revealed to Newsweek that her dog is currently undergoing training to become a psychiatric service dog. The purpose of the training is to assist with panic attacks and anxiety. While the process is still a work in progress, Smith acknowledges that there are challenges to overcome. She mentioned that her furry companion tends to bark excessively and chew on everything. However, Smith is actively working on correcting these behaviors.
He is only a young pup, a mix of dachshund and Chihuahua breeds.
Smith affectionately describes their dog’s playful and snuggly nature. The furry companion delights in engaging with the cats, who reciprocate the fun, and also enjoys romping around with their cousin, Nova, the adorable dog belonging to Smith’s roommate.
Grogu, a delightful mix of French bulldog and Boston terrier, is the final member we meet. This adorable pup shares a home with his loving owner, Kara Dickman.
“He’s just one year old and interestingly shares the same date of birth as one of his owners,” Dickman shared with Newsweek.
With a joyful demeanor, the playful dog finds delight in basking in the warm rays of the sun and finding comfort by snuggling under cozy blankets.
According to Dickman, “He is an exuberant young boy who adores playing, going to the dog park, and indulging in tasty treats. This Frenchton has completely captured our hearts.”
