According to a report by Axios, if Donald Trump is re-elected this year, he intends to initiate federal investigations and prosecutions against Joe Biden and his family.
According to a “Trump ally,” the existing federal charges against Trump could serve as a precedent for prosecuting Biden.
Trump is on track to become the Republican nominee in November and consistently outperforms Biden in head-to-head polls. Additionally, Trump is showing strong support in crucial swing states.
Trump is currently facing a total of 44 federal criminal charges. Out of these, 40 charges are related to his alleged retention of classified information, while the remaining four charges are connected to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election. In addition to the federal charges, Trump is also facing 44 criminal charges at the state level. Specifically, he is facing 10 charges related to election subversion in Georgia and 34 charges related to hush-money payments in New York.
If Trump were to win re-election, he would have the power to dismiss the federal charges against him or even potentially pardon himself. However, he would still be subject to the state charges and unable to escape their consequences.
New York, the state where Trump used to reside before relocating to Florida after his presidency, has been the origin of hefty fines in two separate civil cases. One case revolves around tax fraud, while the other pertains to defamation arising from a rape accusation that a judge deemed to be “substantially true.”
Despite facing unprecedented legal jeopardy, including a trial set to begin next Monday in the New York hush-money case, Trump effortlessly secured the Republican nomination to once again go head-to-head with Biden in November.
During his time as vice-president to Barack Obama, Biden was under investigation for retaining classified information. However, unlike Trump, he chose to cooperate with the authorities. It is worth noting that, unlike Trump, Biden was not charged in relation to this matter.
During his tenure as president, Donald Trump faced impeachment not once, but twice. The first impeachment stemmed from allegations of pressuring Ukraine to obtain damaging information on his political rivals, notably including Joe Biden. The second impeachment followed his alleged role in inciting the violent attack on Congress that took place on January 6th.
House Republicans have made multiple attempts to impeach President Biden, accusing him of corruption related to his son, Hunter Biden. However, these efforts have been marked by chaotic hearings and have not been successful.
According to Axios, Mike Davis, a former legal aide to Chuck Grassley, a Republican senator from Iowa, has accused the Bidens of engaging in “illegal foreign corruption.” Davis made this statement despite the fact that a key source of allegations against the Bidens was jailed and linked to Russian intelligence, which caused embarrassment for Republicans.
According to Davis, since the Biden justice department seems unwilling to take action, it is up to the Trump 47 justice department to do something about it. He also mentioned that this responsibility extends to Trump, even if he were to win re-election as the 45th president.
According to Jamie Raskin, a prominent Democrat and a manager in Trump’s second impeachment, Republicans who support enabling Donald Trump’s criminal vengeance campaign are turning this situation from a farce into a tragedy.
