In Gwinnett County, there has been a rise in incidents where thieves are targeting youth league fields and stealing equipment, as well as vandalizing the premises.

Channel 2 Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson reported from Rhodes Jordan Park in Lawrenceville on Thursday, where a significant amount of equipment went missing, resulting in a loss of hundreds of dollars.

According to the president of the youth league, the incidence of vandalism on the field and their buildings has escalated significantly in the past year.

“This park holds a special place in my heart,” he expressed fondly.

According to him, the amount of graffiti was so excessive that they had no choice but to paint over it.

He expressed that pouring your heart out to the community can sometimes result in being bitten back.

In the recent incident, thieves managed to steal all the weights stored in the room near the field during a break-in last week.

He said they had weights worth anywhere between $700 and $1,000.
