A Texas mother has been taken into custody after reportedly leaving her two young children unattended at home for several days while she went on a cruise, according to court records.

Lakesha Williams, a 29-year-old resident of Houston, is facing charges of felony for abandoning a child with intent to return, as stated in a criminal complaint.

According to the complaint, neighbors at her high-rise apartment building observed Williams leaving with luggage on April 4 but did not witness her return.

According to the complaint, concerned neighbors at the apartment complex contacted law enforcement to request a wellness check on the children’s safety.

According to the complaint, the children informed the police that their mother had left them on April 4th, stating that she was going on a vacation cruise and they were uncertain about her return.

According to the complaint, it seems that there were no adults supervising the children since then. Williams allegedly utilized a video camera to monitor and communicate with the children during this period. Additionally, the complaint states that the boy had a phone and was using it to text her.

“The children were clearly left without supervision for several days, putting them in significant danger,” remarked Keegan Childers, the chief prosecutor of the 209th District Court, during an interview with Houston ABC station KTRK.

According to the complaint, a Child Protective Services agent arrived at the scene to ensure the well-being of the children. Subsequently, the children were entrusted to the care of their aunt.

According to the complaint, deputies made attempts to contact Williams and have her come to the scene, but she was uncooperative and inconsistent in her statements about her whereabouts.

According to online court records, Williams was taken into custody on Thursday and is set to make an appearance in court on Monday. At this time, there is no information available regarding her legal representation.

ABC News was unable to reach the aunt for comment, and she declined to provide any comment when approached by KTRK.
