Pro-Palestinian protesters caused major disruptions for many travelers in Chicago when they blocked the entrance to O’Hare International Airport, resulting in several individuals having to walk to the terminal.
Protesters disrupted the I-190 access road to the Chicago-area airport by blocking it. They formed a group and linked their arms across the highway, creating a physical barrier. In addition, some protesters stood and chanted “Free Palestine,” expressing their solidarity with the cause. The atmosphere was further intensified by the presence of drummers, adding rhythm and energy to the ongoing protest.
The police were present at the scene to control the protest, but the demonstration still resulted in heavy traffic forming outside of O’Hare.
Numerous travelers opted to forsake their vehicles and make their way to the airport on foot, as eyewitnesses observed several individuals dragging their luggage across the grassy median. CBS News reports that the demonstration lasted less than an hour, with normal traffic resuming by 9:15 AM.
According to CBS News, the police have not confirmed any arrests related to the protest.
Demonstrators also staged protests on Tax Day in other parts of the country. In San Francisco, they blocked the Golden Gate Bridge’s southbound lanes, while in the Bay Area, they blocked Interstate 880’s northbound lanes. These protests were held in support of a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.
