Cobb County Democrats are continuing to voice their criticism towards Gov. Brian Kemp for his lack of support in fully expanding Medicaid, despite the increasing bi-partisan support for such an expansion.
During his speech at the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce, Kemp emphasized his achievements in the recent legislative session. He proudly mentioned successfully delivering over $1 billion in tax returns to the taxpayers, as well as implementing salary increases for teachers, DFCS workers, and state law enforcement officers.
“We have been consistently able to take these actions thanks to our responsible approach in balancing the state budget,” Kemp emphasized.
However, the governor failed to address the topic of Medicaid during his speech, despite the increasing support it has been gaining within his own party.
Richard Elliot from Channel 2 was present at the state Senate Committee hearing a few weeks ago when Medicaid expansion fell short of one vote needed to be brought up for a vote before the full Senate.
Several Republicans expressed their openness to the idea, according to Elliot.
