The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice has recently undergone a change in leadership with the appointment of Dr. Letunya Walker as the Deputy Superintendent of the DJJ school system.
According to DJJ Commissioner Shawanda Reynolds-Cobb, Dr. Walker’s appointment as Deputy Superintendent is highly valued due to her extensive knowledge and years of experience in education. The commissioner also expressed confidence in Dr. Walker’s dedication to providing students with an education that equips them with the skills to become lifelong learners and prepared for college and careers.

Walker, a seasoned educator with 33 years of experience, is well-acquainted with the classroom environment. Her journey with the DJJ commenced in 2003 when she joined as a teacher at the Milledgeville Youth Development Campus. Over the years, she has honed her skills and expertise, ultimately rising to the position of assistant deputy superintendent.
Throughout her career, she has held various leadership positions, including roles as a teacher, principal, regional principal, and director of instructional programs at the DJJ.
Walker brings 13 years of experience in the education field to DJJ. Prior to joining the organization, she served as a teacher and assistant principal in the Baldwin County School District in Milledgeville, Georgia.
