An American has been arrested by Colombian police on Tuesday for reportedly offering cannabis tours to tourists in his home. The tours are said to cost $30, providing a unique and unconventional travel experience.
According to a statement from the Colombian national police, a 73-year-old man from Sabaneta, a town south of MedellĂn, had been advertising his house on social media and a foreign visitor website.
In addition, he handed out flyers promoting “Cannabis Farm Tours” led by a guide named “Cannabis Jimmy.” The brochures mentioned that participants would receive “free samples” during the tours. Each tour accommodated around 2-8 individuals, with reservations being necessary.
During the tours, which typically lasted 2-3 hours, the man provided visitors with an insightful education on the various aspects of planting, caring for, harvesting, and maintaining this extraordinary plant. Additionally, he offered the tour-takers an opportunity to purchase marijuana at a cost of $20 per gram.
During the arrest, the police seized a total of 1,380 grams of marijuana. The suspect, who is an American, has not been identified by the authorities.
Colombia has been grappling with the challenge of managing and curbing the trafficking, manufacturing, and possession of narcotics within its territory for a significant period of time.
In a recent incident, the Colombian Navy seized a dilapidated boat that had been shipwrecked. To their surprise, they discovered a substantial amount of illegal substances on board. The authorities confiscated a total of 33 kilograms of cocaine and a staggering 744 kilograms of marijuana. This interception highlights the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region.
Colombia, the largest exporter of cocaine in the world, is responsible for supplying almost 90% of the cocaine consumed in the United States annually.
