Jay Weigle from Hays was taken into custody after a series of alarming incidents involving his ex-girlfriend and an Uber driver. The turmoil began when Weigle allegedly stalked his former girlfriend, a 42-year-old woman from Winfield, to Salina. She reported being followed by Weigle and, upon reaching the Roadway Inn, he confronted her in the parking lot.
Weigle demanded that she exit her vehicle, but she refused. In a fit of rage, he retrieved a hammer from his own vehicle and smashed her driver’s side window. He then threatened her with the hammer, forcing her to escape from the car and seek help, yelling for someone to contact the police. When she returned to her vehicle, she discovered that her front driver’s side tire had been slashed, and her wallet and cell phone were missing.
The situation escalated further when an Uber driver, unrelated to the previous incident, contacted the police around 1:15 a.m. the next morning to report being followed by a vehicle. Providing a description of the vehicle, the police were able to locate it at the intersection of College Ave. and West Elm Street. Weigle was found behind the wheel and was arrested without incident.
Weigle now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, criminal threat, vehicle burglary, criminal damage to property, and theft, in connection to these alarming events.
